"There are people, for example, who develop osteoarthritis because of a malaligned limb — they are bow-legged or knock-kneed. And they develop osteoarthritis in the inner or outer compartment of the knee. This malalignment can appear after a meniscus has been removed. In younger patients, up to 60–65, we can perform operations in which we adjust the mechanical axis of movement. The pressure in the arthritic compartment drops considerably and the person is rid of their pain."
