CSID interview: Women are genetically predisposed to develop knee osteoarthritis. Which factors can be controlled

"Patellar instability occurs more often in women than in men because of specific genetic factors, different anatomy — women having a wider pelvis than men — or weaker ligaments. It can appear following trauma, limb malalignment, a predisposition from birth, or after certain operations on the knee. This gives rise to dislocations or displacements of the kneecap that stress the cartilage of the knee to the point of destruction and can lead to gonarthrosis, also known as knee osteoarthritis."
